Red is one of my favourite colours and my obsession has been carried forward to lipsticks too. I always make a mental note of buying lipsticks in a different shade but no as usual I always gravitate towards reds and end up buying them and the latest casualty has been the L’oreal Star Collection Pure Reds by Fan Bing Bing in the shade Pure Vermeil.
What can I say; it is a very different red than my other red lipsticks. A beautiful matte red with a hint of orange(y) pink(y) coral in it. It is not a very intense bold red so that gives me a chance to apply it daily for work; subtle and classy.

Staying power of this lipstick is great; it lasted over 6 hours even between meals on my lips. Colour payoff is really good and the pigmentation is a perfect matte without being glossy. Doesn’t dry out the lips, doesn’t bleed; gives a nice definition to the lips. Prepping your lips with a lip liner is equal to classy pouty lips. It doubles up as a lip stain too. Have been loving this product a lot lately but… (Yes there’s but) it has a flipside which I just cannot ignore even if I want to. It might be a flipside just to me I don’t know but I have to put it out there.

It’s the bullet of this lipstick that is a problem. This has been the third time that I have faced this issue with L’oreal lipstick bullet. Previously, it was the L’oreal Paris Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick of which I bought two and both had the same issue. The lipstick bullet mechanism is not strong enough to hold the lipstick which results in the product brushing against the sides and you end up having more lipstick on the sides which is a very unpleasant sight; it completely ruins your lipstick. Every time while rolling up the lipstick I have to be extremely careful so I don’t damage it further.

There’s a rattling sound as the lipstick has loosened up and a constant fear of it falling off (FYI… my L’oreal Paris Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick bullet has fallen off). I think there’s an issue with this particular mechanism, design and packaging because I have never faced such a problem with any of my other L’oreal lipsticks.

I apologise for such a long post. Truth be told I truly love this lipstick, love the colour, amazing staying power and I do use it every day; but, if am paying INR 995/- and on the very first use your lipstick bullet falls off is not really worth the price you pay in my opinion. I want to try other shades in this line but I am sceptical; you can say I am “Once bitten twice shy”.

Have any of you had a similar experience with your new L’oreal lipsticks?
